About the Performers

Kris Adams: Kris is an Associate Professor in the Harmony Department at Berklee College of Music. In addition to teaching classes in Harmony, she also teaches ensembles, one of which is dedicated to the music of Chet Baker, and an ear training class for singers. Her other teaching duties include private lessons at Wellesley College and New England Conservatory.

She has also been Artist-in-Residence at the Centro-Cultural Costariccense Norteamericano, Costa Rica and at the Berklee in LA Jazz Clinics. Kris has worked with Sheila Jordan, Jay Clayton, Michelle Hendricks (Spoleto Arts Symposia's Vocal Jazz Workshop), Monica Salmaso (San Paulo, Brazil) and Norma Winstone (Bertinoro Music Scuola).

Jean Mancini Gough: Jean holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Vocal Performance/Education and has performed extensively throughout New England as a wedding and church soloist. She has been employed for the past 11 years as soprano soloist for the First Unitarian Church, Worcester, MA, performing a vast range of genres from classical to jazz. As a recitalist, she has presented numerous programs in the New England area, Philadelphia and New York City. Her training and years of experience have made her a knowledgable and sensitive performer, equally comfortable in various styles.

In the jazz world, Jean has studied with veteran singers Sheila Jordan and Jay Clayton at the Vermont Jazz Center and is presently the featured vocalist with the Jay Tyer Group. She also serves as vocal jazz liason at the popular Jay Tyer Jazz Jam at the Java Hut, Worcester MA.

Kaoruko: Kaoruko is a jazz vocalist fresh to the Boston scene. She comes from Tokyo where she worked in the nightclubs singing and playing piano. Kaoruko came to Boston in 1990 to study at Berklee College of Music. There she studied vocal performance and jazz composition with some of the best the school had to offer, including Herb Pomeroy and Greg Hopkins.

Since graduating she has continued her studies with Hal Crook and Charlie Sorrento. With Hal Crook, local jazz improv guru, she learned style and scat skills. In Boston, Kaoruko has performed jazz standards in clubs and restaurants including Acton Jazz Cafe, Ryles, Les Zygomates, Limbo, The Center for the Arts In Natick, and Bullfinch's.

The MetroWest Jazz Project: The MetroWest Jazz Project consists of Tom Phelan on vibes, Brett Baker on guitar, Steve Conahan on bass and Ed Conley on drums. By day, mild-mannered high tech workers, by night they transform into crusaders for truth justice and that most American of art forms -- jazz.
