Our vision of what the barn will be.

And what the barn currently is:

Rear view of barn

In 1996 the town of Hopkinton purchased a large parcel of land known as the Terry Property. The property had served as a family run farm for many years but was purchased to become the future site of two public schools and several athletic fields. A group of Hopkinton residents had the foresight to realize that a piece of history would be lost if the farmhouse and barn located on the property where not saved. The steering committee, also had a love of the arts and quickly realized that saving the farmhouse and barn and finding a home for the arts in Hopkinton would make both dreams a reality.

Out of this dream the Cultural Arts Alliance (CAA) was formed and the farmhouse is now a bustling multi-generational center that offers a place where the community and artists can intersect. Artists can enjoy a place to exhibit their works and students of all ages, a location to learn to play music, draw, hold art shows, and even learn quilting skills. The house also serves as the site of the locally famous annual Haunted House and it provides office space to administer these programs as well as Community Theater, talent shows, musical events and children’s programs.

The CAA is now ready to undertake renovation and restoration of the barn itself. When the barn is ready to be opened to the public it will provide multipurpose space for larger art shows, small community theater, musical performances, community meeting space, and a location for private parties. In May of 2004 the town of Hopkinton voted to allocate $100,000 for the initial phases of stabilizing the barn. A Barn Building Committee was formed and is in the process of taking the first steps to stabilize the barn.

The CAA has been working to raise funds to match the town funds in the hopes that we will be able to add heat, handicap access and plumbing to the barn so we will be able to host year round functions. We are in need of donations of materials, labor, and of course we are happy to accept cash! We hope you will consider joining us in saving this little piece of Hopkinton history and in supporting local artists by participating in any of our upcoming events, becoming a member, or by donating your own individual talents.
